1. R v Waya [2012] UKSC 51; [2012] 3 WLR 1188 – Supreme Court of England and Wales. (Media case)

Decision by a fully constituted nine member Supreme Court, including the Lord Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court.

The most significant authority on benefit in Confiscation Law.

These issues were deemed by the court to be matters of law ‘of great public importance’.

The appeal was a wholesale review of the assessment of benefit in confiscation hearings, the effects of re-payment of such benefit prior to final hearing, the application of the principles of abuse of process and the compatibility of confiscation orders with Human Rights legislation.

2. R v M J – Court of Appeal Criminal Division, May 03, 2013, [2013] EWCA Crim 644

This firm was instructed by the appellant in the Court of Appeal in an appeal against a confiscation order/ compensation order. The appeal examined the relationship between confiscation orders, under part 2 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, and compensation orders in the light of the recent decision of the Supreme Court in R v Waya (2012) UKSP 51, (2012) 3 WRL 1188. The appeal was allowed.

3. R v Maurice Taylor – Court of Appeal decision. (Media case)

Defended one of several defendants involved in one of the country’s biggest boiler room frauds.

4. R v O (Media case)

Represented a defendant who was involved in a multi jurisdictional lottery scam.

5. R v A (Media case)

Currently representing a former British intelligence officer involved in the investigation of the supply of arms to Iraq.

6. R v Wallace- Nottingham Crown Court (Media case)
